As members of your parent council, our goal is to work in partnership and collaboration with our school, parish and the parent communities to support the children in their pursuit of academic, spiritual, and personal success.
The Ontario Ministry of Education states that “study after study has shown us that student achievement improves when parents play an active role in their children’s education, and that good schools become even better schools when parents are involved…students are more likely to be motivated, to earn higher grades, to have better behaviour and social skills, and to continue their education to a higher level when their parents are actively engaged in supporting their success at school.”
The council wishes to extend an invitation to all parents to come and participate in the 2018/2019 Catholic School Council. Please consider coming out and participating. Nomination forms will be sent out in September on the first day of school. You can nominate yourself or another. The first Catholic School Council meeting will be held in the learning commons on September 18th. Parents, even if not participating on council, are welcome to attend all the council’s meetings.
This past school year, the council was able to raise funds for our school through hot lunches (sub, pita, pizza) and through the pasta dinner. With these funds, we have been able to purchase gym equipment, technology (including document cameras and laptops), agendas, communion/confirmation crosses, graduation dinner, Bishop Tonnos graduation award, CYO membership for the school year, the end of the year picnic for the school. A portion of the funds we raised were able to support some local charities. These included sponsoring a CYO membership for an underprivileged school in our community, The Knights of Columbus, The Living Rock, and Lights of Hope. Thank you to all the parents who have supported these fundraisers. Your contributions to our school and our community are greatly appreciated.
The council would also like to extend thank you to all the volunteers, teachers, staff throughout the school year for making St. Joachim a wonderful school.
